Jobs Lacking Legislators Working

May 3, 2009

TEXAS Senate Criminal Justice Committee
TEXAS Correction Committees

TEXAS CORRECTIONS SYSTEM COST BILLIONS
OF TAXPAYERS DOLLARS A YEAR

Where were you?

Why are you not showing up for your Committee Meetings?

Does anyone care?

Guess Not or the elected legislative body of TEXAS would show up during their every Two (2) Year Legislation Meetings that the Voting Taxpaying Citizens of Texas Elected them to do.

Wow, what a nice salary the Voting Taxpaying Citizens pay you to be a “NO SHOW”, not to mention the Health Care , Retirement Plan, and not have to pay into the Social Security and Medicare Plan because you are exempt .

I wonder how the Texas Legislators spend their days and exactly where some of them are at the time of a scheduled meeting and/or committee voting time?

Let us count the days, April 23rd, 27th, 28th, 29th and 30th, The Criminal Justice Committee chaired by Senator John Whitmire, not enough members present for a quorum. The same thing happened with the Correction Committee in several schedule meetings, "NO SHOWS".

Bills cannot be passed enabling changes until the Bill goes through the hearing, the hearing cannot be held if there is not a quorum of Committee Members showing up. One Meeting Senator Whitmire was asking someone to look in the hallways to see if any of his members were out there, if they were, ask them to come in...seen on the video of the meeting.

Since the Texas Legislature meets only every two (2) years from January 20th until May 20th, one would think the Elected Officials, voted to that position by Texas Voting Taxpaying Citizens, would be willing to at least attend the Committee Meetings they sit on, but that does not appear to be the case.

Listed you will see the dates times and members either present or absent:

March 17, 2009 1:30 PM all members present
March 18, 2009 1:30 PM all members present
March 24, 2009 1:30 PM Senator Kel Seliger absent
March 25, 2009 1:30 PM Senator Kel Seliger absent
March 31, 2009 1:30 PM all members present
April 7, 2009 1:30 PM all members present
April 14th, 16th all members present
April 21, 2009 absent Senator Ellis and Senator Hegar
April 23, 2009 1:30 absent Senators Carona, Patrick, Ellis and Hegar no quorum
April 27th, 28th, and 30th 1:30 PM no quorum, meeting scheduled later for desk meeting, audio only.

Below is listed the pending Bills for the House Correction Committee. Please review to see if you think the issues presented here are important enough to show up to do your Job. There is more on line at http://www.legis.state.tx.us for those that would like to dig deeper. (removed this for lack of space, email if you would like the list to papa@peopleagainstprisonabuse.com)

I say it is a disgrace for our elected Legislators not to honor the elected position enabling them to uphold the law and speak for “WE THE PEOPLE”. The Legislators are not representing “WE THE PEOPLE” when there are "NO SHOWS" for committee meetings held for hearing the BILLS and VOTING on the BILLS.
